Tatsuma Suguro's Father (達磨の父 Tatsuma no Chichi) is Ryuji's grandfather and the Sixteenth Head Priest of the Myōō Dharani sect.
Appearance[]
Tatsuma's Father appeared to be a fairly well-built man for his age with a shaved head and long dark beard. The miasma spreading from the Right Eye of the Impure King had caused several growths across his skin.[1]
Personality[]
Tatsuma's father appeared to be a very strict man obsessed with rigidly following the precepts of the Myo Dha sect even when the doctrine was not achieving the desired result.[2] This could extend to the point of callusness, allowing others to die without concern so long as Myōō Dharani and its secrets were maintained.[3]
History[]
Seven years before his introduction, the miasma from the Right Eye of the Impure King had caused sickkness to spread through the Myōō Dharani sect, killing fifteen people, including the High Priest's own wife.[4][5] Many others had fallen ill despite the efforts of the priests and their various rituals.
Synopsis[]
Kyoto Impure King arc[]
Tatsuma Suguro wrote a letter to Rin Okumura describing the events by which he first met Shiro Fujimoto.
Some months before the Blue Night, Tatsuma's father lead the Myōō Dharani in daily rituals to attempt to abate the sickness being spread by the Impure King's Right Eye. He orders Tatsuma to perform the Homa (護摩 Goma) ritual and insists that when he dies, Tatsuma will learn the true secrets of the sect and have to carry them on.
Some time later, when he hears that Shiro Fujimoto has infiltrated Fudoubuji, he attempts to have him killed, but Shiro ends up escaping.[6]
Several months after this event, Tatsuma's father would end up dying during the Blue Night when Satan attempted to possess him.[7]
Blue Night arc[]
During the Blue Night, the exact circumstances of Tatsuma's Father's death are shown. Being possessed by Satan, he exits the temple and attacks his son and followers. Killing Nekosuke Miwa in the process, his body soon gives out, leaving Karura to transfer its contract to Tatsuma.[8]
Powers & Abilities[]
While not a member of the True Cross Order, Tatsuma's Father still possessed a similar skillset to that of a Tamer.
