Shie Moriyama (杜山しえ Moriyama Shie) was a gardener at the Exorcist shop Futsumaya, located on the campus of the True Cross Academy.
Appearance[]
Shie had light gray hair, which she often wore in a bun, some pieces would fall in front of her face and a section of it was curled on the left side her head, with a black ribbon tied around it. She had some wrinkles on her face around her eyes and mouth, and even some on her forehead. She was a short woman, barely the same height as her granddaughter. She usually wore a yellow kimono with a green sash and a white apron, to keep her clothes clean while working in her garden; on colder or rainy days she would also wear a brown coat over her kimono.[1][2]
Personality[]
Shie was very knowledgeable about gardening and was always willing to share that knowledge with her granddaughter. She loved gardens and always dreamed about going to the garden of Amahara, although she never would leave her own garden behind to find it. She always encouraged Shiemi to be adventurous by telling her about the garden of Amahara and suggesting that she should go search for it when she is older. She was very kind and often put the wants and needs of others before her own.[3]
History[]
Shie began teaching Shiemi about gardening when she was just a little girl; telling Shiemi that root crops should be planted when the moon is waxing and leaved crops should be planted when the moon is waning. She also used to tell Shiemi a story about the garden of Amahara, a garden containing all the different plants from around the world, and always said how much she wanted to go there someday. Many years later Shiemi's Grandmother asked Shiemi to help cover the grapes because the clouds were coming in, but Shiemi said she would help do it later after she got back from searching for the Amahara garden. Shiemi's Grandmother told her that it sounded like a wonderful idea, told her to be careful, and told her to be back before dark. When Shiemi returned home she found that her Grandmother had attempted to cover the grapes by herself and was laying on the ground, dead.[3]
Synopsis[]
Blue Night arc[]
Shie was the previous Grigori in the seat of Shemihaza during the time before the Blue Night. She was first seen being present for one of the many Elixir experiments being performed on Lucifer in Section 13.[4] Sometime after this, she informs Lucifer that Amaimon had left his physical body and tried to convince Lucifer to do the same, when, in the face of his staunch refusal he questioned her humanity, she states that she abandoned it when she took her position as a Grigori. Her efforts were in vain as during their conversation, Amaimon reincarnated in the body of a test subject from the Samael group, prompting Lucifer to insist on the continued research.[5]
Several years later, she was present for the Exorcist certification for both Shiro Fujimoto and Yuri Egin.[6]
She is once again seen trying to entreat Lucifer to abandon the physical world, but Satan's invasion of Section 13 forces her to retreat.[7]
Roughly ten months later, during the Blue Night, Shemihaza resists the attempts of Satan to possess her and the other Grigori, prompting her to return to Section 13.[8] Arriving shortly after Satan had been subdued, she used her abilities to accelerate Yuri's postpartum period, but asked her to sacrifice herself in order to remove Satan's attachment to the physical world. Shiro Fujimoto objected, taking Yuri and her children away before they can be taken into custody.[9]
After, she and Mephisto Pheles confront Lucifer. Using Shemihaza's crystal, she accelerates his body until it crumbles to dust, but is injured in the process.[10] She states her intention to resign her position, considering the Blue Night a failure in her duty, with Mephisto welcoming her to reside at his branch.[11]
Of One Cloth arc[]
Shie's spirit is shown to still reside within the land of El, acting as a spiritual guide for Shiemi during her training for roughly a year and a half before fading from existence.[12]
