The Sorrows of the Troubles in Making Bento Boxes (波乱のお弁当作りの哀愁 Haran no o Bentō Zukuri no Aishū) is the 20th serialized chapter of Kazue Katō and Minoru Sasaki's Salaryman Exorcist: The Sorrows of Yukio Okumura.
Summary[]
During lunch, Konekomaru and Ryuji comment on how colourful Rin's daily bento are. Rin remarks offhandedly that Ryuji's are usually brown in colour. He offers to make Ryuji one for the next day since he already makes Yukio's anyway, but, angered by Rin's comment about his bento, Ryuji swears to bring a better one tomorrow.
Trying to make a bento, Ryuji despairs that all his dishes turn out brown. Konekomaru points out that his dishes focus on building muscle. Whilst trying to make a new one, Ryuji doesn't want to just imitate Rin's way of doing things, but Shima suggests spying on him all the same, only to be shot down by the others. Despite intense effort, Ryuji's bento ends up exactly the same as before. However, Rin comments that his bento looks really nutritious and asks to have some, reassuring Ryuji that there is merit in how he makes his lunches.
Despite the cheery atmosphere of lunch, Shima looks uncomfortable, when asked about it, he waves it off, but it is revealed that he did go spying on Rin that morning. In the process, he found Yukio covered in blood and Rin wielding a knife. Fleeing the scene, he didn't realise that Rin was carving fresh tuna, and the blood merely spattered onto the exhausted Yukio who fainted.
Listening in on Rin and Ryuji's conversation, Shima's suspicions grow, not seeing Yukio, who was still sleeping in the classroom, he resolves to investigate the scene of the crime. Returning to the Old Male Dormitory, he overhears Rin and Yukio talking about how the box the tuna came in was big enough to fit Yukio, but Shima can't make it out clearly and does not realise Yukio is still alive and well. When Rin notices him, he asks for Shima's help disposing of the tuna leftovers, but Shima misinterprets his statement, falling over himself in an attempt to get away. When he asks about Yukio, Rin points to the box. Seeing Yukio hunched over in the box, Shima mistakes him for a corpse and passes out.
